The Delta King's Blues Director's Salons

Join IN Series for a special Director’s Salon exploring The Delta King’s Blues, a world premiere opera that reimagines the legend of blues icon Robert Johnson through a deeply resonant contemporary lens. These intimate gathering offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from composer Damien Geter and librettist Jarrod Lee, whose bold new work confronts the intersection of myth, race, and power in American music history. Cast members will share reflections from the rehearsal process and what it means to bring these archetypal characters to life, while guest scholars offer context around the historical and cultural themes woven into the opera.

Attendees will also enjoy early musical excerpts from the score. Whether you’re a longtime IN Series supporter or new to our work, these Salons are a chance to engage with the art, artists, and ideas that make The Delta King’s Blues such a compelling new addition to the operatic canon.
