1. Viva V.E.R.D.I. – The Promised End

Verdi’s name became the battle-cry of the revolution that birthed Italy. Our world-premiere theater piece stages the most popular choral work of all time, Verdi’s towering Requiem, distilling its fiery music for an essential core of eight opera singers. As the aging composer remembers his life, his soaring music reveals our human pains and joys. Steven S. Mazzola and Paul Leavitt direct.

2. Figaro in 4 Quartets

at GALA Hispanic Theatre

Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro re-imagined through the lens of the last poetry of T.S. Eliot. 5. LA PALOMA— AT THE WALL
March 23 – 31, 2019
at GALA Hispanic Theatre

A new treatment of La Verbena de la Paloma –the most famous Spanish zarzuela –revolutionized, and set in Friendship Park, straddling the seaside border-fence between Tijuana and San Diego. Despite imposed separation, cultures and lives, ideas and commerce, intersect, rise, and flourish. Writer Anna Deeny Morales and director Nick Olcott reveal the humanity of this joyous music.

6. The Tale of Serse
June 1 – 9, 2019
at Atlas Performing Arts Center – Lang Theater

This most vibrant of Handel’s works – including its famous  ‘largo’ Ombra Mai Fu – transformed for contemporary audiences.  From ancient Persian legends, the pains and pleasures of love seen through the magic of this music and a new narration from the poetry of Rumi, one of the most popular poets of all time. Timothy Nelson directs.
