About the Fidelio Awards

The Fidelio Awards are given annually “In recognition of major contributions and dedication to the Washington D.C. arts community and faithful artistic support of the In Series”

The 2017 Honorees will be:

Jane Lang
Carlos César Rodríguez & Peter J. Burroughs
The Spanish Dance Society

Come, hope – Shine your light on our most distant goals…” -Beethoven’s Fidelio, Act I: Leonora’s aria

The In Series announced the conferring of its inaugural Fidelio Awards in June 2016 in honor of Artistic Director and Founder, Carla Hübner’ s 75th birthday. The 2016 honorees were Leon Major, Rebecca & Hugo Medrano, and Septime Webre.

About the Honorees

Jane Lang, lawyer, arts philanthropist and arts education and music advocate, is the primary force responsible for the emergence of Northeast D.C.’s vibrant Atlas Performing Arts Center.

Carlos C. Rodríguez & Peter J. Burroughs are both well-known artists in the classical music, Spanish music and opera worlds. They have collaborated with the In Series for 25 years. Carlos is internationally recognized as a virtuoso pianist and emerging opera conductor. Peter is a nationally known singer and a noted D.C. area community outreach artist working with Arts for the Aging and D.C. Public Schools.

The Spanish Dance Society is an international organization dedicated to promoting Spanish dance and pursuing excellence in its presentation, execution and instruction. The D.C. chapter was at the core of the local flourishing of Spanish dance awareness, including many performances for/with the In Series.
