Summary: Cecilia, a young mulatto girl, falls in love with Leonardo, a white playboy. Both are unaware that they share the same father. She becomes pregnant and gives birth to a baby girl. Leonardo deserts Cecilia to marry Isabel, an upper-class white girl. Cecilia goes mad with grief.
